Learn How to View Module Content Blocked by Browser Security
There are new security settings in browsers that prevent http sites from rendering inside frames in https sites. This means that sometimes the module content will display an empty frame, even though there should be a video or website showing. In order to view http content in Canvas, you must modify browser security settings to allow unsecure content. You can read about browser requirements at http://guides.instructure.com/s/2204/m/4214/l/41056-which-browsers-does-canvas-support Links to an external site.. Because we usually recommend using Firefox, here are the instructions for viewing that content if it's blocked in Firefox.
Firefox
If you are using Firefox Version 23 or later a Shield Icon will appear on the far left side of your browser bar.
1. Click the shield next to the URL in the browser address bar.
2. If you trust that the content you are trying to view is safe, click on the small shield, then the drop-down menu next to the phrase Keep Blocking. From here, select ‘Disable Protection on this Page’ to load both http and https content.
3. The content will now display in the module, and a yellow caution symbol will appear next to the URL in the browser address bar.
Chrome
If you are using Chrome version 21 or later, a grey Shield Icon will appear on the far right side of your browser bar.
If you are using Chrome version 20 or earlier, when you navigate to a Page in your class that contains anything tagged as "insecure content" by Chrome, a yellow bar will appear near the top of your browser window that reads "This page has insecure content" and gives you the option to either "Load anyway" or "Don't Load (Recommended). Selecting to "earn more" will take you to an explanation from Chrome Links to an external site..
If you trust that the content you are trying to view is safe, go ahead and either click on "Load Anyway" in the yellow var, or the grey Shield, and then the option to "Load Anyway."
Next, go ahead and select "Reload this Page" to reload you page, including all content.
It may take a moment for the page to reload, but you should be able to view your content at that time. You may also notice that the URL, which normally appears green will now be read, which a strike through the header to indicate that it has loaded insecure content.
